Research Project:

Retail Food Environments in the Canadian Arctic: Inuit Community Experiences

Tamara’s masters research project is a part of the C4FS project – Community Capacity for Climate Change and Food Security Action in the Northwest Territories at uOttawa and “Can we tell them that people can’t afford to eat, and it’s getting worse and worse?”: Developing innovative methods for participatory food environment research in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region through Dr. Kenny at the University of Laval. Through community-based and participatory research this project is partnered with the community of Paulatuk to explore the social impacts of their current retail store through concepts such as food environments. Her research also explores retail food systems across remote Indigenous communities in Canada, to better understand retail foods in this context.
