Sarah Newell (she/her) studied at the University of Ottawa, completing an undergraduate degree in health sciences and a master’s in health systems which focused on community resilience to a disaster. She completed a PhD in health policy at McMaster University, where she conducted research on the influences of social, cultural, and ecological factors on community health in the Canadian arctic. Collaborating with the community of Chesterfield Inlet, Nunavut, this research focused on better understanding how shipping and climate change impact community health. More recently, she examined how small communities respond to forest fires and flooding through a post-doctoral fellowship with the Global Water Futures research collaboration. She is currently a post-doctoral fellow working with Dr. Crighton and Dr. Wesche on the Nunavut Water Resource Assessment and the Prenatal Environmental Health Education (PEHE) projects.
